It's Johan Skullman who has founded and developed all of Garphyttan's clothing. With over 40 years of experience in outdoor life, both in the military and civilian sectors, he is an expert in survival. In addition, over the past decade, he has developed clothing for some of the leading Nordic outdoor brands.

Nowadays, Garphyttan is his sole focus, and there he ensures the development of clothing based on the high standards he sets for himself when he is active. In other words, clothing that is comfortable, durable, and multifunctional.

Johan Skullman is a survival expert and an icon in the world of outdoor activities. With over 30 years of experience as an officer and field operator in the Swedish Armed Forces, he was responsible for field testing, requirements, and specifications for soldiers' protective equipment and clothing.

After his military career, Johan worked for more than a decade as a product developer and consultant for some of the leading Nordic outdoor brands.

As the founder and product developer at Garphyttan, Johan designs all of our clothing based on his own requirements when he is active outdoors.

Why did you start Garphyttan?

The curiosity to take on the challenge of creating a versatile, multifunctional system of clothing and gear that inspires and makes it a little easier to get outdoors, without having to change clothes and embrace a wider range of outdoor activities beyond just hiking. Garphyttan is who I am, how I live, and what I believe in!

What is important to you when it comes to the development of clothing?

For me, clothing is not primarily about style and appearance. Function and fit are more important. The clothing must be comfortable, durable, and have practical solutions well-suited for life in nature. I want to create clothing to feel proud of and that you can confidently know will withstand all the challenges you may face.

Who are Garphyttan's clothes for?

It's easy to think that Garphyttan's clothes are only for the most adventurous or the most handy. That's not true. Our clothes are for everyone! We create clothes that blur the boundaries between home, nature, work, and leisure, simply intertwining all aspects of life, regardless of the situation.
