How to avoid freezing outdoors in the winter
Don’t let the cold get in the way of wonderful trips outdoors during the winter – with the right knowledge and adequate materials, you can enjoy nature even on the coldest days!
#1. Layer on layer
Dress in accordance with the multi-layer principle = multiple thin (and suitable for the purpose) layers, rather than few lined garments.
#2. Lighten up during activity
When you move, you produce heat. Lighten up your clothing to sweat less. Stay warm = stay dry.
#3. Reinforce during breaks
During periods of inactivity, the body’s heat production decreases. Compensate for this by reinforcing your clothing, even if you’re not feeling a chill.
#4. Ventilate more
Use the garment’s ventilation options to be able to fine-tune your body heat on the go, without having to change clothes.
#5. Change socks – often
Regular sock changes keep the feet dry – which helps prevent both chafed feet and coldness in the lower extremities.

#6. Drink warm drinks
By drinking warm drinks, the body can focus on keeping you warm rather than warming up the liquid consumed.
#7. Eat properly
The body’s own heat production is called “thermogenesis”. This is mainly affected by movement but also by the food you eat.
#8. Insulate against cold from the ground
Use a sleeping pad or somthing similar to insulate against cold from the ground during inactivity. Whether you are standing up or sitting down.
#9. Hot water in a bottle
When it’s really cold, you can pour hot water into a bottle and keep it inside your jacket – like a portable element.
#10. Wax outerwear
Waxing is an easy way to improve your outerwear’s wind and water repellency. Stay dry = stay warm.
